Hello! My name is Isabel, and I’m so excited to be joining the BTB team. I’m a recent college grad who loves writing about media and feminism. As an English major with a Gender Studies minor, I made every class into a Gender Studies class—because gender is everywhere! I carry that philosophy into my movie and TV-viewing, too.
My posts will explore some of my favorite movies—both new and old— and their portrayals of gender. What I hope we’ll discover together is a wide variety of ways to tell stories about gender equality and social justice, as we take an intersectional lens to both some of the canonical feminist hits (Working Girl, anyone?) and some less obvious narratives. Class, race, and sexuality (among many other aspects of identity) give us the opportunity to explore different feminisms, especially those that do not depend on affluence, whiteness, or heterosexuality. I look forward to finding new ways to examine these feminisms as we all try to move beyond the Bechdel.
Thank you so much for having me! This is going to be fun.
